Quality Control Considering Assembly Order for Two Stage Processes

    Get PDF
Variation reduction in multistage assembly processes is an important but challenging issue for quality control. It is desirable to minimize the final product variance from a system level. Fruitful research has been conducted on this issue based on the fixed assembly order. However, the variability of parts can be affected by different assembly order. In this paper, we propose a quality control strategy that takes into account the assembly order in two stage assembly processes. Specifically, we analyzed the relationship between the final product variation targets and the assembly order. A case study in conducted on a two stage assembly process of vessel diaphragm to illustrate the developed methodology.disastrous

Optimization of maintenances following proof tests for the final element of a safety-instrumented system

2019 The Authors Safety-instrumented systems (SISs) have been widely installed to prevent accidental events and mitigate their consequences. Mechanical final elements of SISs often become vulnerable with time due to degradations, but the particulars in SIS operations and assessment impede the adaption of state-of-art research results on maintenances into this domain. This paper models the degradation of SIS final element as a stochastic process. Based on the observed information during a proof test, it is essential to determine an optimal maintenance strategy by choosing a preventive maintenance (PM) or corrective maintenance (CM), as well deciding what degree of mitigation of degradation is enough in case of a PM. When the reasonable initiation situation of a PM and the optimal maintenance degree are identified, lifetime cost of the final element can be minimized while keeping satisfying the integrity level requirement for the SIS. A numerical example is introduced to illustrate how the presenting methods are used to examine the effects of maintenance strategies on cost and the average probability of failure on demands (PFDavg) of a SIS. Intervals of the upcoming tests thus can be updated to provide maintenance crews with more clues on cost-effective tests without weakening safety

CooGAN: A Memory-Efficient Framework for High-Resolution Facial Attribute Editing

In contrast to great success of memory-consuming face editing methods at a low resolution, to manipulate high-resolution (HR) facial images, i.e., typically larger than 7682 pixels, with very limited memory is still challenging. This is due to the reasons of 1) intractable huge demand of memory; 2) inefficient multi-scale features fusion. To address these issues, we propose a NOVEL pixel translation framework called Cooperative GAN(CooGAN) for HR facial image editing. This framework features a local path for fine-grained local facial patch generation (i.e., patch-level HR, LOW memory) and a global path for global lowresolution (LR) facial structure monitoring (i.e., image-level LR, LOW memory), which largely reduce memory requirements. Both paths work in a cooperative manner under a local-to-global consistency objective (i.e., for smooth stitching). In addition, we propose a lighter selective transfer unit for more efficient multi-scale features fusion, yielding higher fidelity facial attributes manipulation. Extensive experiments on CelebAHQ well demonstrate the memory efficiency as well as the high image generation quality of the proposed framework

A Framing Link Based Tabu Search Algorithm for Large-Scale Multidepot Vehicle Routing Problems

    Get PDF
A framing link (FL) based tabu search algorithm is proposed in this paper for a large-scale multidepot vehicle routing problem (LSMDVRP). Framing links are generated during continuous great optimization of current solutions and then taken as skeletons so as to improve optimal seeking ability, speed up the process of optimization, and obtain better results. Based on the comparison between pre- and postmutation routes in the current solution, different parts are extracted. In the current optimization period, links involved in the optimal solution are regarded as candidates to the FL base. Multiple optimization periods exist in the whole algorithm, and there are several potential FLs in each period. If the update condition is satisfied, the FL base is updated, new FLs are added into the current route, and the next period starts. Through adjusting the borderline of multidepot sharing area with dynamic parameters, the authors define candidate selection principles for three kinds of customer connections, respectively. Link split and the roulette approach are employed to choose FLs. 18 LSMDVRP instances in three groups are studied and new optimal solution values for nine of them are obtained, with higher computation speed and reliability

Optimization of Leak Detectors’ Positioning in a Hydrogen Refueling Station

Hydrogen has the potential to promote sustainable road transport in the forthcoming years, thus significantly reducing the human impact on the environment. This energy carrier can be produced by renewable energy through water electrolysis and used in fuel cell-powered vehicles (FCVs) with elevated efficiency and no pollutant emissions. The number of FCVs being used around the world is rapidly increasing, reaching 34,804 vehicles and 540 refueling stations by the end of 2020. Nevertheless, hydrogen is highly flammable and can permeate and embrittle most metallic materials, making its containment extremely challenging. A leak in a hydrogen refueling station can rapidly escalate to a major disaster if not promptly detected and addressed. In this perspective, gas sensors play a critical role in detecting leakages and undesired hydrogen releases. When selecting a hydrogen gas detector, it is important to consider the environmental conditions in which it is expected to operate, its performance, reliability, and cost, as well as the optimal positioning within the refueling station. This study analyzes several hydrogen releases from a high-pressure storage tank to optimize sensor positioning, given a certain detection probability. This research contributes towards advancing the modelling of safety barriers in hydrogen refueling stations considering accident scenarios. In this vein, this study aims at expanding the current knowledge of facility operators and stakeholders for related risks, thus enabling the widespread utilization of hydrogen in road transport
